Painsley Catholic College Recognised by Education Minister for High Academic Standards

Painsley Catholic College, Cheadle, has received a letter of congratulations celebrating its high academic standards from Rt. Hon. Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for school standards.

The College is praised for its students’ success in terms of academic progress from joining the College at age 11, to the completion of their GCSEs.  The excellent rate of progression is well above the national average and places Painsley in the top 12% of state-funded mainstream high schools in England.

Another success measure commended is the high number of students entering the ‘EBacc’ (The English Baccalaureate) at Painsley Catholic College.  The ‘EBacc’ is a set of subjects at GCSE that is designed to keep young people’s options open for further study and future careers.  It includes English language and literature, maths, the sciences, geography or history, and a language.  This broad mix of subjects gives students a rounded education that enables them to have access to a wider range of opportunities on leaving school.   In 2018, 82% of Painsley students were entered for the EBacc which places the College in the top 7% of all state-funded mainstream schools.

Mrs Rachel Waugh, Acting Principal at Painsley Catholic College said, “We are delighted to have received this letter in recognition of the hard work and high standards maintained by our staff and students.”
