Summer School Stars Shine!
Blessed William Howard Catholic High School has seen a fantastic uptake of places at their Summer School in August. The weeklong Summer School presented new Year 7 pupils with a taster of a range of subjects at the high school from RE, English, Maths, Art, Geography and Music to teamwork and relationship bonding activities with their new tutors and Year 7 pastoral team, Mr Burton and Mrs Walker.
The school also worked with Stafford Sports and Performance Academy and The Inspirational Learning Group (TILG) who provided PE and Enterprise sessions throughout the week, which all culminated in a final day focusing on mental health.
Mr Brown, Principal, has been extremely impressed with the commitment and dedication demonstrated by pupils during the week. “Year 6 pupils have faced many unprecedented learning challenges. Therefore, we have aimed to make their transition to Blessed William Howard Catholic High School as smooth as possible. We have been delighted to welcome over 100 pupils who have left each day with a smile, new friends and the support they need to start their Year 7 learning journey at Blessed William Howard. As we welcome all pupils from across Stafford who are both Catholic and non-Catholic, wellbeing is a top priority for all of our BWH community because happy learners and caring staff create a learning environment to build future successes. I look forward to welcoming our students again in September!”
“Take up of this offer was really popular. We included a mixture of specialist BWH staff led activities and external providers in our programme to ensure a balance of relationship building, mental health awareness and curricular-based lessons. Careers-related learning is an exciting part of our education and we hope to raise aspirations right from the start of Year 7” added Mrs Jenefer Walker, Assistant Principal.
“Of particular note, TILG delivered a fantastic day called Alton Towers Challenge when teams of pupils had the task to design and market a new ride at Alton Towers, not a mean feat given the £15 million budget they were allocated. Team members were assigned roles such as Project Manager and Chief Designer then had to present, firstly, to peers in their tutor group and the tutor group winners progressed to present to the judging panel comprised of Mr Bell (CEO of The Painsley Catholic Academy), Mr Brown and myself. The innovation and resilience on show throughout the day were incredibly impressive and is an example of the great things to come!” she continued.
